ABOUT:
Aviator style Ray-Ban sunglasses revolutionized the world of sunglasses by incorporating distinctive and eye catching innovations. This particular '40s Shooter's innovation includes the "General" brow bar and the "bullet hole" ring at the nose bridge both designed to improve the balance of the sunglasses on the face along with Outdoorsman "shooter" ear stems that wrap around ears for the most secure fit. Ray-Ban bullet hole shooters were so named because of the center ring, or "bullet hole" which was combined with the General's brow bar to improve the balance of the sunglasses on the face. The center frame ring element as first introduced was 8mm in diameter which produces a 3mm nose bridge gap. This offered the most protection from flying particles when shooting firearms and especially shooting automatic firearms. Such a small bridge brings the lenses very close together, protecting the eyes from burning powder fragments and metallic particles. Ray-Ban black frames are known as "black chrome" with electroplated chrome onto the core material. The process ensures that the chrome is permanently bonded to the core metal which was specially alloyed for both strength and malleability. So the black finish is not an enamel which could chip or wear off.
These particular sunglasseare form circa 90'-00' as Bausch & Lomb were sold to Luxotica in late 90's and since then only Ray Ban logo was present on the lenses like on these.
